“I have always loved working with children…”
I started teaching English with the Thamarai Project, because I have always loved working with children and I have always been very interested in Thamarai Projects. I thought it would be a good opportunity to grow and learn as a person and also, to learn about life from a different perspective in another country.
I taught English to a small group of eight children, which I really enjoyed. My main subject material was about life in Ireland, where I’m from. Together we learned about famous people from Ireland, for example in one class, I showed them a lot of resources on Grainne Mhaol, the famous Irish 15 century pirate queen.

The children loved learning about the life, cultures and traditions of a whole other country and I loved listening to them telling me about life in India. We all definitely learned a lot from the experience, I really enjoyed being able to step out of my comfort zone and I loved meeting the children, who were all lovely. I would like to continue teaching with Thamarai and, hopefully in the future, visit in person someday.
